About GIS Institute

GIS Institute by BeInCert is a professional training and skills-assessment platform dedicated to GIS, open-source geospatial technologies, and applied spatial competencies. Operated by BeInCert Certifications S.L., an EdTech organization specializing in competency assessment and credentialing, the Institute provides structured learning and verifiable recognition for professionals, students, and organizations. Its core portfolio focuses on leading open-source tools such as QGIS and PostGIS to manage, analyze, and publish geospatial data.

Our mission

Our mission is to make high-quality GIS learning and professional skills recognition accessible to geospatial practitioners across different regions, languages and professional backgrounds.

Through progressive core certifications and specialised sector-focused training, GIS Institute helps learners develop practical competencies, demonstrate their achievements and apply geospatial technologies to real professional challenges.

Our approach

Learning content is organised around clearly defined outcomes, practical exercises and professional use cases. Candidates can combine training and assessment or apply directly for an assessment when the applicable programme allows it.

Successful completion of a Core Certification assessment leads to a Certificate of Achievement. Completion of an eligible specialised training session leads to a Certificate of Training.

Our learning ecosystem

The Core Certifications family provides structured pathways built around technologies and professional roles. The initial portfolio includes five levels of learning and assessment using QGIS, followed by pathways dedicated to PostGIS and other open-source geospatial technologies.

Training Specialisations focus on the application of GIS to sectors such as water, energy, environment, climate, agriculture, urban planning, infrastructure and disaster risk management.

Our commitment

GIS Institute is committed to accessible learning, transparent assessment, multilingual delivery and the responsible use of open-source geospatial technologies.

The Institute aims to contribute to a stronger and more inclusive geospatial workforce by connecting technical learning with practical professional needs.
